Earlier this month, the Congregational Council announced steps being taken to balance the FY 2016 budget, including several staffing changes. One of those changes was to reduce the Director of Missions position to half-time. Since then, Director of Missions, Tom Thiets communicated to Council that he intends to leave his position at Trinity. In order for Tom to complete his duties relative to the 2016 Mexico Mission trip and other mission outreach responsibilities, Tom has agreed to remain on staff on a full-time basis until the end of March 2016.
Trinity’s missions outreach will continue to be an integral part of Trinity’s ministry and mission. With Tom’s departure, steps will be taken to ensure that all of Trinity’s outreach opportunities continue, including the Mexico Mission trip and in Tanzania, through greater reliance on Trinity’s Missions Board, additional congregational leaders and participants, and services from the Saint Paul Area Synod of the ELCA. Discussions are underway to explore future joint mission outreach opportunities between Trinity and Mano Amiga, a non-profit organization operated by Tom and other Trinity members, which has been actively engaged in food-packing events and other efforts. Please prayerfully consider how you might participate in Trinity’s outreach ministries.
We are grateful for all that Tom has done to develop and support Trinity’s mission outreach efforts. Please join the Council in thanking Tom for his years of service and the contributions he has made. We wish Tom all the best in his future endeavors. Arrangements for a farewell opportunity to wish Tom well will be announced at a later date.
