What is this Retreat?
Service is a big part of Faith Formation at Trinity. As we dream and grow into new ways of service at our church, we're partnering with Urban Immersion Service Retreats (UISR), a program of the Greater Minneapolis Council of Churches, to create and facilitate a retreat focused on educating kids about the complexities of poverty through a lens of faith and service in their community. During the MEA Service Retreat, our group will experience many issues contributing to poverty, serve those affected and take what we learn and address the issues in our own communities.
Kids will take part in interactive activities each day to explore the complexities of poverty and how they relate to issues of faith. These opportunities, combined with the hands-on learning that comes through service, will stretch participants and encourage them to think about how they can create change for their neighbors who are struggling.
Located near the Midtown Global Market, our Retreat Center will be your home away from home during your retreat. The Retreat Center is a secure building with dormitory style rooms that can sleep up to 55 people. There are sitting areas and bathrooms with private showers on each floor.
We arrange safe, meaningful service learning projects at organizations such as food shelves, shelters and other social service agencies. Kids may serve at more than one location each day. Service projects will be coordinated between the UISR Program Coordinator and each group’s leader.
Kids will make breakfast and pack a bag lunch at the retreat center. We provide dinner through a community organization or on-site. If you have special food requests (allergies, gluten-free, etc.), just let us know!
If you are an adult interested in leading a small group and joining us on this trip, please contact Monty Lysne! Adults need to be comfortable transporting youth in their own vehicles, both to the center in Minneapolis and to service sites throughout the week. Any adults over the age of 21 are welcome to join us!
Registration is open and payment due by Sunday, September 17th. Scholarships are available upon request.
