Grade 5

2017-18 Faith Formation for 5th Grade

Grade 5 will meet on Wednesdays from 6:15-7:30pm in the Trinity Bible Room.  The first session is October 4th.

  • Encounter God through Old and New Testament Bible Stories (using NRSV Bible, guided discussion, skits, experiments, activities, faith stories, questions, etc.)
  • Connect with God through prayer (Variety of styles will be used including writing personal psalms.)
  • Experience God’s Love through relationships with ministry leaders, small group leaders, peers and guest role models.
  • Respond to God through weekly gratitude practices and offerings (Students will help determine what they want to financially support.)
  • Worship God through participation in monthly family worship services
  • Lent – During four weeks of Lent, students & parents will participate together in a weekly mini-session series followed by 30-minute worship services.  During these four weeks, students and parents will identify their stewardship style, be given opportunities to use them, and grow in confidence and excitement regarding their important role as members of the Trinity and broader Body of Christ.

When we share with others, we still have enough for ourselves – that’s how faith and God work!  Giving is faith forming.  We will take an offering every Wednesday evening.  Half of the 5th grade offering will support a student scholarship in Tanzania through the St. Paul Area Synod of the ELCA in which Trinity belongs. The other half will help support the operating expenses of our own church.  We encourage you to make opportunities to visit with your child about giving from their allowances and/or gifts of money rather than always pulling it out of your pocket/purse. Also remember that what you do is their best teacher, so explain to your children how, when and where you have chosen to share financial gifts. Being part of something bigger than ourselves changes the world and gives us joy and purpose.

Other faith-forming stewardship is through our time and talents.  See the “Family Volunteer Opportunities” tab.
