Trinity Call Committee

Per Trinity’s Constitution, the Congregational Council appoints the Call Committee—a team of 5–9 diverse members who will lead Trinity’s search for a new Lead Pastor. Guided by the Ministry Site Profile (MSP) created by the Transition Team and in collaboration with the Saint Paul Area Synod Bishop’s Office, the Call Committee will screen, interview, and discern candidates. Their final responsibility is to recommend one Lead Pastor candidate to the congregation for a vote.

Trinity is preparing to form a Call Committee that will help guide us toward calling our next Lead Pastor. A diverse team of members will begin their work soon, drawing on the Ministry Site Profile created by the Transition Team and partnering with the Saint Paul Area Synod Bishop’s Office.

Key Responsibilities & Process 

• Preparation. The Transition Team has identified Trinity’s needs and the desired pastoral skill set. These are summarized in the MSP, which all Lead Pastor candidates will review before their names are considered. The Call Committee will thoroughly understand the information in the MSP before beginning their work. 

• Search & Interview. 

The Call Committee will: 

  • Review candidate profiles provided by the synod 

  • Check references 

  • Conduct interviews 

  • Ensure a fair, prayerful, and confidential process 

• Discernment & Recommendation. Through prayerful conversation—often seeking unanimous agreement—the committee will recommend one final candidate to the congregation. 

  • Best Practices. 

  • Confidentiality: Candidate names remain private; only the recommended candidate’s name will be revealed.

  • Support: Point of contact for synod leadership, utilize synod resources for guidance. 

    • Committee diversity: To ensure a mix of ages, backgrounds, gender, and skills, candidates nominated by congregation members will be considered in addition to this application process. 

    • Communication. The committee will provide regular, transparent status updates to the Church Council and Congregation throughout the process. 

    • Time Commitment (estimate): 

    • General commitment: 2–4 hours per week through the end of the search, including regular in-person committee meetings, individual work, candidate interviews, and attendance at Congregational meetings related to the Lead Pastor search. 

    • Leadership option: The Call Committee Lead will have extra meeting planning and coordination responsibilities, requiring additional time per week. (Please indicate the skills section of the application form if you are interested in the lead role.)
